Student-athletes score top honours for peak classroom performance

When it comes to excelling in the classroom, Brock’s student-athletes have their head in the game.

This week, the Brock Badgers proudly celebrated the academic accomplishments of 271 student-athletes during the annual Celebration of Academic Excellence.

The ceremony, presented by Nothers The Award Store, took place at Pond Inlet on Wednesday, Jan. 15 and highlighted student success from the 2023-24 academic year.

“The Celebration of Academic Excellence is a testament to the hard work, discipline and dedication our student-athletes demonstrate both in the classroom and in competition,” said Brad Clarke, Associate Vice-President, Students. “This event not only highlights their remarkable academic achievements but also reinforces Brock’s commitment to fostering excellence in academics and athletics.”

With an average of at least 80 per cent in their program of study, each Badgers Academic Excellence Award recipient was honoured with a certificate and pin at the ceremony. Student-athletes who achieve honour roll status in subsequent years earn a distinct pin each year in celebration of their academic success throughout their Brock University career.

“Our student-athletes continue to represent Brock University so well, excelling both in the classroom and on the playing field,” said Melissa Krist, Executive Director, Brock Sports and Recreation. “This event, a highlight I look forward to annually, not only showcases our varsity athletes’ ability to balance both academics and athletics but also demonstrates Brock’s commitment to fostering a culture that supports the development of well-rounded student-athletes.”

In addition to receiving institutional honours, 125 Badgers qualified as 2023-24 U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians by maintaining an academic standing of 80 per cent or higher while participating in a U SPORTS-sanctioned sport.
