Opportunities open for global research, study exchanges at Brock

Funding is now available to support international students and scholars seeking study, research or professional development opportunities at Brock during the 2025-26 academic year through Global Affairs Canada’s Short-Term Exchange Programs.

These include the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) and Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS) program.

The Government of Canada announced ELAP in 2009 to promote partnerships, student mobility and research collaborations between post-secondary institutions in Canada and the Americas.

Students must be a citizen of an eligible country/territory:

  • Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos
  • Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama
  • North America: Mexico
  • South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela

ELAP provides the opportunity for students to study or research at Canadian institutions for a period of four to six months. Students can receive between $8,200 and $11,100 for this scholarship.

Students can review the scholarship information and apply through Brock International’s online form by Friday, Feb. 28.

SICS aim to increase opportunities for Canadian post-secondary institutions to welcome international students from a wide range of countries and territories on short-term exchanges for study or research. This will provide institutions with the opportunity to strengthen and diversify their international linkages and promote their academic and research excellence in new markets.

Students must be a citizen of an eligible country/territory:

  • Asia: Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan
  • Europe: Türkiye, Ukraine
  • Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia
  • Sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda

SICS allows students to study or conduct research at Canadian institutions for a period of four to six months. Students can receive between $10,200 and $12,700 for this scholarship. Students can review the scholarship information and apply through Brock International’s online form by Friday, Feb. 28.

For students to receive any of these scholarships, they must come to Brock through one of two pathways:

  • Through a student exchange program in which Brock University and the students home university have an active student exchange agreement. Students with this pathway will be coming to study (i.e., take classes), must be approved to do so and be nominated by their home university to Brock’s Student Exchange Program.
  • Through Brock’s Global Scholars Program, which supports students and scholars at the undergraduate and graduate level coming to Brock to conduct research for a set period of time. These students will need a letter of support from a Brock Faculty. A partnership with the home university is not required for this option and is available to undergraduate or graduate students coming to Brock to conduct research (i.e., not taking any classes).

Contact Brock’s Global Scholars Office at globalscholars@brocku.ca for more information on the above programs, or visit the Brock International website.
