Every day, people have the power to transform the lives of Brock University students for generations to come.

This belief inspired Peter Fuller to establish the Anna-Marie Doede Bursary Fund in honour of his wife, Anna-Marie Doede (BEd ’77), who passed away in 2023 from cancer.

“Anna-Marie felt that attending Brock University was an important part of her life. It provided her with the tools and abilities to positively influence so many students’ lives,” said Fuller.

One of those students is Autumn Fogal, a fourth-year Concurrent Teacher Education student from Hamilton, Ont.

Fogal has also been deeply affected by cancer. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and was unable work, casting doubt on Fogal’s ability to afford tuition.

“A weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” Fogal said of receiving the bursary. “It’s donors like Peter Fuller who help students like me pursue their dreams and aspirations.”

The financial support has alleviated her tuition concerns, allowing her to continue her studies at Brock while leading Brock’s Relay for Life club, which is associated with the Canadian Cancer Society.

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and members of the local Niagara community are asked to donate to Brock University’s Giving Tuesday initiative in support of student success. Giving Tuesday is a global celebration that inspires individuals and communities to support the causes they care about most.

Funds raised from the campaign will enhance the student learning experience and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Brock students.

“Giving is not just about making a donation; it’s about making a difference,” said Tracy Geoffroy, Associate Director, Development. “In celebration of our 60th anniversary, your gift today will help shape the next 60 years of excellence at Brock University by providing students with opportunities and the resources they need to realize their full potential and make a positive impact on the world.”

Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, the first $25,000 donated will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling a donor’s impact and empowering the transformational educational experience Brock is known for.
