Wellness Week events set to help students destress

From puppy yoga and crafts to free treats and film festivals, Brock students have a wealth of opportunities to relax and recharge next week as they prepare for the stressful end-of-term season.

Brock University’s Wellness Week — which takes place from Monday, Nov. 4 to Friday, Nov. 8 — features a variety of events organized by the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU), Graduate Students’ Association (GSA), Brock’s Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC), and the Brock University Library.

All Brock students are invited to a drop-in mindful colouring and craft session on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Wellness HUB, located in TH 134. The event will also offer a safe space for students to chat and access mental health resources available at Brock.

For undergraduate students, BUSU and partners across campus have planned a variety of fun and relaxing events to support students’ mental and physical well-being, including:

  • Puppy yoga on Monday Nov. 4 at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. room KC 120 in the Kenmore Centre.
  • Free snacks on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and Wednesday Nov. 6 at 8 a.m. in Union Station while supplies last.
  • A free sandwich bar in lobby of the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from noon to 2 p.m. while supplies last.
  • A free hot breakfast of pancakes, breakfast sausage, eggs, crispy potatoes, juice, coffee and fruit on Thursday, Nov. 7 in Union Station. Breakfast will be available from 7:30 a.m. until supplies run out. The free hot breakfast is part of the Food First program.
  • A free drop-in board games event at Isaac’s on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 3 to 7 p.m.
  • BrockTV’s Render This Film Festival Screening at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in downtown St. Catharines on Thursday, Nov. 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the screening runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Brock students can use the code “RENDERTHIS” to get free tickets on the BUSU website. Tickets include free snack and drink vouchers.

The GSA and its campus partners have planned a range of wellness activities to for Brock’s graduate students, including:

  • A free gentle flow yoga class on Monday, Nov. 4 at 11:10 a.m. in the Brock Fitness Studio.
  • A drop-in Thera Paws Puppy Room on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in atrium of the Roy and Lois Cairns Health and Bioscience Research Complex.
  • A drop-in painting and coffee social on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon in Pond Inlet.
  • A free hot breakfast in Union Station on Thursday, Nov. 7 starting at 7:30 and running while supplies last.
  • A wellness bag giveaway on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the GSA Office located in MCC 302. Bags of free snacks and wellness items will be available to registered graduate students while supplies last.
  • An art therapy session on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in MCC 300. Student VIP will also be on hand to answer health and dental benefit questions.
  • A pottery painting session with Crock-a-Doodle on Friday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon in Pond Inlet. RSVP is required to attend.
