Talk to shine light on gender-based abuse in beer industry

For two decades, Professor of Kinesiology Cathy van Ingen’s work has been at the forefront of trauma- and violence-informed sport research.

Before taking up filmmaking, Cathy van Ingen co-founded Shape Your Life, a non-contact boxing program in Toronto working with women-identified and youth survivors of gender-based violence.

This spring, her career took on another dimension when she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media and completed her first short documentary film.

What Ales Us? explores sexual harassment and what happens to “two women who reckon with a broken beer industry and start a movement to change it,” says van Ingen.

The award-winning documentary will be screened as part of van Ingen’s Women in Leadership presentation on Thursday, Nov. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

Details on this and other upcoming Women in Leadership sessions, including dates, descriptions and login information are available on the WIL website. Members of the Brock community can use their Campus ID to access recordings of past sessions.

Women in Leadership is committed to supporting and advancing persons who identify as women to achieve and succeed in leadership. All are welcome. Individuals can join the WIL channel on Microsoft Teams or contact Jeannie Mackintosh to be added to the WIL email distribution list.
