New strategic plan puts focus on Brock’s ability to transform people, reimagine the future

Brock has unveiled a new institutional strategic plan that will guide the University and its decision-making through the next five years.

Transforming people, reimagining the future articulates a clear institutional purpose statement, guiding principles and four key areas of strategic focus.

The plan highlights Brock’s commitment to its growing research enterprise, environmental social and economic sustainability, internationalization, decolonization and reconciliation, and fostering an equitable, inclusive and accessible environment for all.

The plan was launched Nov. 7 at an event in Bob Davis Gymnasium attended by hundreds of enthusiastic campus community members.

“This is truly an exciting time to be a Badger,” said Lesley Rigg, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Brock has seen great momentum in recent years, and this new plan is going to help us capitalize on that momentum to take the University to new heights.”

In the new plan, Brock has refined its previous mission and vision statements with a concise new purpose statement: “Transforming people, reimagining the future through curiosity, creativity and courage,” reflecting the University’s critical role in equipping individuals with the tools needed to reshape the world.

The plan identifies four principles that should guide Brock community members in everything they do:

  • Champion one another.
  • Break down barriers.
  • Lead by example.
  • Learn through curiosity.

It also includes four strategic directions that will guide University operations in the coming years:

  • Shape tomorrow through research, discovery and knowledge.
  • Build sustainable futures.
  • Realize you matter.
  • Bring the world to Brock, and Brock to the world.

The plan is the result of a highly consultative process that included more than 2,000 consultations with students, faculty, staff, alumni, members of the Board of Trustees and Senate, and community partners.

It was guided by a steering committee with representation from across campus.

“We have so much to celebrate at Brock,” said Rigg. “In just six decades, we’ve evolved into one of Canada’s top institutions. Each and every person on this campus plays a role in making Brock the special place it is. And each of us has a role to play in bringing this new strategic plan to life.

“Brock has accomplished so much over its first 60 years. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next.”
