Thesis defences — Sept. 16 to Sept. 20

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Monday, Sept. 16 and Friday, Sept. 20.

Master of Science in Statistics thesis defence

Lasith Chamindu Pranath Pussella, a Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics candidate, will defend the thesis “Simulation for Cricket: A Machine Learning Approach” on Monday, Sept.16 at 11 a.m. in MCJ 404.

Master of Science in Biotechnology thesis defence 

Assmaa El Khal, a Master of Science in Biotechnology candidate, will defend the thesis “Insect-specific viruses: infection rates and routes of transmission in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes” on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

Master of Science in Biotechnology thesis defence 

Nicole Brauch, a Master of Science in Biotechnology candidate, will defend the thesis“The use of immobilized caffeine aptamers in decaffeination and Roles of co-precipitants in the precipitation of DNA” on Friday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. in MCJ 404.

PhD in Child and Youth Studies thesis defence

Shauna Kingston, a PhD in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Resisting Neoliberal, Adultist and Ableist Education: An Autoethnography of a Deschooling Parent” on Monday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon in Plaza 600F.

PhD in Applied Health Sciences thesis defence

Trisha Xing, a PhD in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “A Case Study Exploring Mothers’ Experiences of Well-being in Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga at a Maternal Wellness Centre using Transformative Service Research” on Friday, Sept. 20 from noon to 3 p.m. in Plaza 600F.

Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences (Health and Physical Education) thesis defence

Matthew Dingwall, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Enabling the uptake of pedagogical innovations in physical education: The role of social media” on Monday, Sept. 16 from noon to 3 p.m. in STH 361.

Master of ​ Arts in Applied Health Sciences (Community Health) thesis defence

Alison Smoke, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Exploring Youth Experiences in Nature Through a Healthy Equity Lens: A Qualitative Study” on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in WC 204.

Master of ​Science in Applied Health Sciences (Health Sciences) thesis defence

Jacob Sweezey-Munroe, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Examination of voluntary wheel running on markers of adipose thermogenesis in intact and ovariectomized female mice” on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in CRN 427.

Master of Arts in Geography thesis defence   

Paige Fournier, a Master of Arts in Geography candidate, will defend the thesis “What Would it Take for You to Stop Driving to Work? Employer-Based Transportation Demand Management at Brock University” on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

Elizabeth Gay, a Master of Arts in Applied Disability Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Teaching Community Service Providers to Support Caregiver PECS Use: An Evaluation of the PECSperts Facilitator Training Model” on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. in virtual format.
