First female Board Chair remembered for Brock impact

Christine McMillan, the first woman to ever take the helm of Brock’s Board of Trustees, is being remembered for her contributions to the University.

McMillan died Saturday, Aug. 10 at the age of 97.

Known for her passion for education, she served more than 25 years with various local boards of education, including Brock’s Board of Trustees from 1976 to 1990. She became the University’s first female Board Chair in 1983, holding the role until 1987. She was also the first woman to chair what was then the Niagara South Board of Education.

Brock recognized McMillan for her contributions to the University and education at large with an honorary doctorate in 1989.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Thorold.
