Indigenous Peoples Awareness Week (IPAW) at Brock University wrapped up on June 20 with a celebration of Indigenous food, storytelling, dance and music.
Organized by the Hadiya’dagénhahs First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Centre, individuals and families from across Niagara and throughout Ontario took part in more than 20 different workshops, demonstrations and guest presentations from June 17 to 20.
Among the week’s events were Inuit drum dancing and throat singing by the cultural performance group Siqiniup Qilauta, also known as SUNSDRUM, a deer hide rattle making workshop, and a sage plant and medicine talk by Department of Educational Studies Assistant Professor Sherri Vansickle.
Further information about future events as well as on-campus resources for Indigenous students and community members can be found on the Hadiya’dagénhahs Instagram and Facebook pages.
