Accounting and Governance Professor Samir Trabelsi challenged Goodman’s top scholars to be the architects of their own destiny and embrace the opportunities in front of them with passion and purpose.

He shared the words of wisdom with the latest inductees into Brock’s chapter of international honours society Beta Gamma Sigma at the ceremony held Monday, June 10 in the Goodman School of Business atrium. The event saw 80 undergraduate students and 48 graduate students join the society.

Membership in the society is described as the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can achieve. Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes the top 10 per cent of the undergraduate class and the top 20 per cent of graduate students at institutions accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Trabelsi, who was recognized earlier this year by AACSB as one of the 22 members of the organization’s 2024 Class of Influential Leaders, gave the guest address to inductees and shared his own story about the unwavering pursuit of his own dreams and how he found resilience in the ability to overcome adversity.

“Lead with integrity, envision a better world and build communities that uplift and inspire,” Trabelsi urged those in attendance. “As inductees of Beta Gamma Sigma, you are equipped to make significant contributions to society — go forth and lead with excellence.”

Graduate student Dodeye Bassey Evelyn Itie said Goodman’s Master of Business Administration program has helped her learn a lot about herself and develop new skills that she didn’t think were possible.

“Finding out I was being recognized for my academic performance and was being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma took a minute to sink in,” she said. “Most time we just go and do things, we don’t reflect and give ourselves credit. It’s a great achievement and something to be really, really proud of.”

Brock’s Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter was recently recognized by the society as one of their 2023-24 Chapter Honour Roll recipients as a result of receiving the highest honours distinction among the global chapters.
