Thesis defences — May 21 to May 24

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Tuesday, May 21 and Friday, May 24.

PhD in Biotechnology thesis defence

Frank Betancourt Montoya, a PhD in Biotechnology candidate, will defend the thesis “Aspects of bioorganic chemistry – a). Development of caffeine-aptamer for coffee decaffeination; b). Study of 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives as fluorescent probes; c). Encapsulation of DNA by silica nanoparticles” on Tuesday, May 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. in Sankey Chamber.

The examination committee includes Wendy Ward, Chair; Tony Yan, Supervisor; Christopher Wilds, External Examiner (Concordia University); Thad Harroun, Internal Examiner; and Jeffrey Atkinson and Vincenzo De Luca, Advisory Committee.

Master of Sustainability thesis defence  

Kaitlyn Carr, a Master of Sustainability candidate, will defend the thesis “Exploring the Role of Knowledge Mobilization in the Adoption of Integrated Pest Management for Grapevine Viruses” on Wednesday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to noon in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Dawn Zinga, Chair; Julia Baird, Supervisor; Vivian Nguyen, External Examiner (Carleton University); Jessica Blythe, Graduate Program Director; and Amy Lemay and Sudarsana Poojari, Committee Members.

Master of Arts in Psychology thesis defence      

Perla Matusof, a Master of Arts in Psychology candidate, will defend the thesis “Academic Competition in the School System: At What Cost?” on Wednesday, May 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. in PLZ 600F.
