Brock to go green with day of sustainability-themed community events

Sustainability will take centre stage when Brock’s Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts (MIWSFPA) participates in a day of events celebrating environmental stewardship in partnership with the St. Catharines Downtown Association (SCDA).

The third annual St. Catharines Go Green! day on Saturday, May 25 will offer a full schedule of events in the downtown core designed to highlight the natural world, including tree planting and hikes at Twelve Mile Creek, workshops, a vendor market and food tours.

Community members are invited to flex their green thumb and dig into a variety of heirloom tomatoes and other veggies through the MIWSFPA Seedling Fundraising Sale from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. at the downtown arts school.

Seedlings and planters will be available for purchase (cash only) in rooms 251 and 256 at the MIWSFPA, with all funds supporting student food security.

The sale is led by Professor of Visual Arts and Faculty of Humanities Associate Dean of Fine and Performing Arts Linda Carreiro with assistance from Professor of History and Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and Associate Elizabeth Vlossak.

The Go Green! Vendor Market takes place at MIWSFPA from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., showcasing a vibrant selection of eco-friendly products made by local producers and artisans curated by Cozy Bones and Ruby Red Beautiful.

Event attendees will also have the chance to attend two workshops to learn about managing household waste with Niagara Waste Management and explore the environmental value of trees through an Urban Forestry Advocacy Workshop in room MWS 156 at the School.

Workshops are free to attend at MIWSFPA and no registration required. For full details on the Go Green! events, visit the SCDA website.
