Brock University honoured its student leaders with the prestigious President’s Surgite Awards during a ceremony on Tuesday, April 23.
A group of 10 students were recognized for their leadership, academic reputation, contributions to student life and service to the University and Niagara communities during a luncheon with Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg.
“These outstanding individuals have dedicated their time to bettering the Niagara and campus communities, while also preparing for future careers that will only broaden their impact,” Rigg said. “Their remarkable leadership, academic achievements and dedication to service are truly inspiring. As they pursue their endeavours, both within and beyond Brock, their accomplishments will continue to bring us immense pride.”
Abigail Wade, who is the captain of the women’s varsity rugby team, is on the verge of wrapping up her Business Communication degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences. She enjoyed her experience at Brock so much that she hopes to complete the University’s Consecutive Teacher Education program in the future.
“Receiving this award feels like a culmination of my efforts at Brock,” Wade said. “I was initially hesitant to apply, but after reflecting on my diverse involvement across athletics, academics and leadership roles I realized my worth. Rugby brought me here, but Brock’s opportunities, from sports to academics, have shaped my path.”
