Badgers curling team books ticket to nationals

The Brock Badgers men’s curling team is heading to the national championships.

Skip Owen Henry, vice Victor Pietrangelo, second Sean Kirkland, lead Patrick Sipura and alternate Daniel Krowchuk captured a silver medal at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Men’s Curling Championships in Guelph on Sunday, Feb. 4.

Their performance qualifies them for the U SPORTS Championship in Fredericton, N.B., from Tuesday, March 12 to Saturday, March 16.

“The key to success was our team chemistry,” said Brock men’s curling coach Jordan Thin. “The joy and ease with which the men’s team have both on and off the ice is the reason we win.”

Brock posted a record of 6-1 over the weekend, including a 5-3 semifinal victory over the hosts, the Guelph Gryphons.

The team dropped only one contest, losing 6-3 to the defending champions, the Laurier Golden Hawks, in the gold medal match.

“It means so much to me to play so well all week and lead this team of my three friends to an OUA silver medal,” said Henry, a second-year Statistics student.
