Graduate community awards now accepting applications

Applications are now open for six awards designed to celebrate excellence, leadership and collaboration in Brock’s graduate community.

Administered by Brock’s Faculty of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, the awards amount to more than $40,000 and will provide financial support for graduate students as well as faculty members and staff who play crucial roles as mentors in the University’s graduate community.

“These awards demonstrate the remarkable achievements within our graduate community,” says Suzanne Curtin, Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs. “By recognizing and celebrating these accomplishments, we not only acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our students and graduate leaders but also inspire others to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.”

Two new graduate student awards generously funded by the Office of the Vice-President, Research (VPR) join this year’s roster of awards.

These include the VPR Travel Awards, providing $1,000 each to 10 students who are attending or presenting at academic conferences, and the Women in STEM Graduate Leadership Award, providing up to $10,000 for graduate students who have demonstrated exceptional advocacy and leadership to advance women and other under-represented groups in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“The idea for the new Women in STEM Graduate Leadership Award arose from a desire to celebrate and acknowledge the phenomenal leadership and amazing initiatives that I have witnessed from Brock’s graduate students,” says Acting Vice-President, Research Michelle McGinn. “Our office is thrilled to fund these two new awards, which are intended to inspire and enable students to pursue their research passions, advance their respective fields and contribute to the broader society.”

Applications and nominations for the six awards are due throughout the Winter Term.

Nominations for the Jack M. Miller Excellence in Research Award are due by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The Women in STEM Graduate Leadership Award applications are due by Sunday, Feb. 25 and the remaining award nominations and applications are due on Friday, March 1.
