Guest lecturer to discuss schedule optimization

Mehmet A. Begen, Associate Professor of Management Science at Ivey Business School at Western University, will discuss approaches to schedule optimization at the next Goodman School of Business Luncheon Speaker Series event on Friday, Nov. 24.

During his talk, he will explore the complexities of appointment and advanced scheduling approaches, which aim to optimize resource allocation and cost. Begen will also discuss a combined approach that uncovers the inter-dependency between these issues and innovative approaches to solve them.

Begen’s research encompasses management science, analytic applications and data-driven approaches, with a primary focus on scheduling and operations management within the health-care sector.

His work, which has been published in journals such as Productions and Operations Management, Mathematics of Operations Research and Operations Research, delves into diverse topics such as contract design, health-care applications, production planning, supply chain management, resource allocation and decision-making under uncertainty.

Begen research has been acknowledged through awards such as the Ivey Research Merit Award, Ivey’s Dean’s Research Faculty Fellowship and the Meritorious Reviewer Award from INFORMS Journals on Computing.

As well as serving as the President of the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS), he has also received the CORS Practice Prize.

The Luncheon Speaker Series provides Goodman faculty, staff and students with an informal opportunity to discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with business colleagues. The talk will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Sankey Chamber.
