Thesis defences Oct. 10 to Oct. 13

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Tuesday, Oct. 10 and Friday, Oct. 13.

Master of Science in Computer Science thesis defences

Marshall Joseph, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Emergent Behaviour in Game AI: A Genetic Programming and CNN-based Approach to Intelligent Agent Design” on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. in MCJ 404.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Brian Ross, Supervisor; Sheridan Houghten, External Examiner (Brock University); and Beatrice Ombuki-Berman and Yifeng Li, Committee Members.

Dipanzan Islam, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Language Agnostic Software Energy Kernel Framework” on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Naser Ezzati-Jivan, Supervisor; Robson De Grande, External Examiner (Brock University); and Beatrice Ombuki-Berman and Glaucio Haroldo Silva de Carvalho, Committee Members.

Maka Hu, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Automatic Generation of HumanReadable Proofs” on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. in CRN 207.

Amirmahdi Khosravi Tabrizi, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Adaptive Logging system: A System Using Reinforcement Learning For Log Placement” on Friday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. in MCH 313.

Master of Arts in Applied Health Sciences (Health and Physical Education) thesis defences

Sandy Howe, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “The current state is a crime: decolonizing experiential education on the Brock University campus” on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

Tamara Tait, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “What is the influence of music on performance in practice and competition among university competitive fencers?” on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in WC 204.

Patrick Segawa, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Drawing on Lived Experience of Peer Support Workers in provision of substance and addiction services: A Case study of ABC Health Centre” on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. in virtual format.

Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics thesis defence

David Emanuel, a Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics candidate, will defend the thesis “On the Extendibility of a D(4)-Pair of Pell Numbers” on Thursday, Oct. 12 10:30 a.m. In CRN 207.

Master of Science in Management (Operations and Information Systems Stream) thesis defence

Khanh Ngoc Tran, a Master of Science in Management candidate, will defend the thesis “Innovation Through Repurposing in Times of Crisis: An Exploratory Study” on Friday, Oct. 13 at 9 a.m. in virtual format.
