Student entrepreneur wins Campus Store shelf space

One-of-a-kind clothing products designed by Brock student Trinity Samarita are hitting the shelves at the Campus Store. Samarita was announced as the winner of the Campus Store and Brock LINC student entrepreneurial contest in April.

Launched in early 2023, the contest offered Brock students the chance to display their own retail-based products in dedicated retail space in store and online at the Campus Store. The top applicants participated in a product sales pitch meeting and the winner was selected through a Campus Store social media contest that received 1,400 votes.

“As the on-campus retailer, we are thrilled to launch a student-powered section at the Campus Store,” said Campus Store Manager Stephanie Nobles. “Our team has been looking for new opportunities to support students and their experience.”

Samarita founded Oopsie Daisy Apparel, which offers original screen-printed designs, during the pandemic after an inspirational Instagram post sparked her creativity. She spent the next few months creating designs and developing her website. Samarita launched her first clothing collection in July 2022.

“I love doing art, using my skills to create something for other people and creating unique designs that you can’t get at other stores,” said Samarita, a third-year Concurrent Teacher Education student.

Winning the contest also gave Samarita access to mentorship, equipping her with information about industry trends and best practices.

“There are a lot of students starting entrepreneurial ventures and creating products to sell. Through this contest, we are excited to give young entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn how to sell their products in a retail store and sell their products to the Brock community,” says Cassie Conte, Program Manager at the Brock LINC.

Samarita will have her products displayed in dedicated retail space at the Campus Store and on the Campus Store website until April 2024.
