Faculty, staff reminded to explore Brock mental health resources

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Brock’s Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) team is raising awareness about the supports available to faculty and staff.

Brock’s Schmon Tower will be also illuminated green on Tuesday, Oct. 10 in honour of World Mental Health Day.

“Acknowledging World Mental Health Day and bringing to light resources and training is an opportunity. One for the Brock community to unite behind this important conversation of mental health and how it is part of all of us and thus all of our workplaces,” says Interim Director, Health, Safety and Wellness Martina Ciglenecki. “The resources and training available here serve to improve our knowledge and language around the matter, align in our shared commitment and most importantly drive important actions to promote and cultivate  healthy workplaces for everyone.”

A number of wellness resources and supports are available through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) for eligible employees and their families.

Those not eligible for the EFAP can access community resources for all employees available on the HSW SharePoint site.

This fall, Brock’s HSW team is hosting two sessions of The Working Mind, a program designed to promote mental health and reduce the stigma of mental illness in a workplace setting. The employee session takes place Tuesday, Dec. 12 and the two-day manager session takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Wednesday, Nov. 15. Registration through ExperienceBU is required.

“We encourage everyone to take The Working Mind training so that we can have a shared language and understanding as individual workers and people leaders,” says Ciglenecki.

Additional employee wellness resources are available on the HSW Toolbox on SharePoint, including recordings of past wellness workshops.

Questions about employee wellness resources can be emailed to employeehealth@brocku.ca

Brock also offers a variety of wellness and mental health supports for students.
