Thesis defences — Sept. 25 to Sept. 29

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Monday, Sept. 25 and Friday, Sept. 29.

PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities

Julie Warkentin, a PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities candidate, will defend the thesis “Sublimating the Singularity of an Author(ity): Textual Publics, Textual Agency, and a Case Study of Eikon Basilike (1649-1660)” on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon in MCD 350L.

Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences (Sport Management) thesis defence

Fitriya Mohamed Hussein, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Exploring Muslim Female Athletes’ Experience of Advocacy and Activism Initiatives in Sport” on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to noon in STH 361.

Master of ​ Science in Applied Health Sciences (Kinesiology) thesis defence

Jenna Osborne, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Examination of physical activity, barriers, and wellbeing in mothers within one year of giving birth” on Friday, Sept. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in STH 361.

Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies thesis defences

Joceline Gaffan, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “An Investigation on the Influence of Parental Physical Activity On Physical Activity Behaviours of Children with and without Developmental Coordination Disorder” on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Kendra Thomson, Chair; Matthew Kwan, Supervisor; Trish Tucker, External Examiner (Western University); Heather Ramey, Graduate Program Director; and Terrance Wade and Denver Brown, Committee Members.

Fiona Teague, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Transitions to Belonging: Evaluating the Impacts of a Community-Based Physical Activity Program Through the Lens of Newcomer Youths’ Definitions of Mental Health” on Friday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon in PLZ 600F.
