Start-of-term message from President Lesley Rigg

Dear Badgers,

What an incredible first week!

As you well know, Brock is renowned for its exceptional student experience, and that was on full display last week as campus came alive with your arrival.

I was privileged to have the opportunity to take part in many aspects of Welcome Week, including move-in weekend (during which more than 2,700 students moved into eight residences), and our New Student Welcome, and I have to say: the energy and enthusiasm you bring to campus and the community is unlike anywhere else.

I also want to extend a special thanks to the team of International Student Ambassadors who are helping to welcome and mentor new students who recently-arrived from outside of Canada, supporting their personal and academic success from day one.

Brock students participate in a lot of activities throughout Welcome Week, but one of the most significant is the Brock Cares Day of Service, which took place this past weekend and saw more than 150 students, staff and alumni taking part in local shoreline cleanups, harvesting produce for social profits, helping individuals with disabilities and supporting community events.

Welcome Week may have concluded, but that doesn’t mean campus is any less electric. There’s lots happening on any given day, as a quick look at ExperienceBU will tell you, and of course we have Homecoming activities (including the Steel Blade Classic hockey game) to look forward to later this month.

It is indeed a great time to be a Badger, and I hope you’ll take advantage of the many opportunities available to you on campus.

From advancing our understanding of humans’ impact on the world and helping high school teachers responsibly use AI, to putting a spotlight on minoritized voices in theatre and creating recyclable polymers, Brock continues to make breakthroughs that are improving lives across Niagara, Canada and around the world.

This year is shaping up to be a spectacular one here at Brock, and I’m so glad you’ll be a part of it.

Lesley Rigg
President and Vice-Chancellor
