Two metric tonnes of Concord grapes await the hundreds of Badgers eager to check one of the University’s signature events off their Brock bucket list.

Known as the University’s messiest tradition, the annual Homecoming Grape Stomp will see students slip and slide through a field of fruit in Brock’s Jubilee Court on Friday, Sept. 22 from noon to 1 p.m.

The event, which University Affairs magazine has called one of the best university traditions in Canada, is part of a packed lineup for Brock’s Homecoming celebration, which continues this weekend with Friday’s Steel Blade Classic hockey game, Saturday’s Brock Night at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival and Sunday’s Badger Bazaar at St. Catharines Market Square.

While it’s free to participate in Grape Stomp, participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold. Costumes are also encouraged.

“Grape Stomp is one of the most anticipated events of the year,” says Student Engagement Co-ordinator Carolyn Hough. “It’s a chance for students to not only celebrate Niagara’s deep roots in the grape and wine industry, but to also give back to the local community while having a literal ton of fun.”

In addition to the grape-tossing fun, the event will also feature live music by Avenue Inn and a free barbecue sponsored by Aramark for the Brock community, while supplies last.
