Thesis defences — June 5 to June 9

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place from Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9.

PhD in Biotechnology thesis defence

Charles Barraco, a PhD in Biotechnology candidate, will defend the thesis “The bipartite function of Clade I TGAs: involvement in basal immunity and systemic acquired resistance” on Monday, June 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

The examination committee members are Brian Roy, Chair; Charles Després, Supervisor; Darrell Desveaux, External Examiner (University of Toronto); Cheryl McCormick, Internal Examiner; and Tony Yan and Aleksandar Necakov, Advisory Committee.

Master of Arts in History thesis defence  

Kathleen Powell, a Master of Arts in History candidate, will defend the thesis “‘At Breakfast We Heard Whistles Blowing’: Nationalist Sentiment in St. Catharines, 1899-1902” on Wednesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. in GLN-A 201.

The examination committee includes Elizabeth Vlossak, Chair; Jessica Clark, Supervisor; Phillip Mackintosh, External Examiner (Department of Geography and Tourism Studies, Brock University); Olatunji Ojo, Acting Graduate Program Director; and Daniel Samson, Committee Member.

Master of Arts in Critical Sociology thesis defence

Nishibu Kaho, a Master of Arts in Critical Sociology candidate, will defend the thesis “Envisioning and Practising Ecological Security in Anti-Base Resistance: Insights from Environmental-Oriented Anti-Base Activists in Okinawa” on Thursday, June 8 at 1 p.m. in a hybrid format (PLZ 600F and Lifesize).

The examination committee includes Dawn Zinga, Chair; Lauren Corman, Supervisor; Sasha Davis, External Examiner (Keene State College); Thomas Dunk, Graduate Program Director; and Nancy Cook and Stefan Dolgert, Committee Members.
