Bourgeois honoured for local leadership

Brock’s Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement Robyn Bourgeois has been recognized for her ongoing commitment to the Niagara community.

On Thursday, June 15, Bourgeois received the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce (GNCC) 2023 Community Leadership Award.

The award, presented during GNCC’s Niagara Business Achievement Awards, aims to celebrate leaders who show exemplary dedication to their community.

Bourgeois said she was honoured and grateful for the recognition.

“As someone whose only purpose in life is to change the world for the better, it’s validating to receive an award that, in the words of the GNCC, ‘recognizes an individual whose leadership has been a significant force for good in the community,’” she said. “I truly hope I’m making this world a better place.”

Having received the honour, Bourgeois encouraged others in the community to step into leadership roles, which she said can take many forms.

“Each one of us demonstrates leadership in our various roles in our lives,” she said. “Sometimes that leadership is out front and forceful; other times it’s quiet and behind the scenes. Sometimes the leadership is public; other times it happens in our homes. Honour your gifts, leverage your privileges and connect with others to make this world a better place for all of us.”
