Election to take place for staff representative on Board of Trustees

Brock University’s Board of Trustees is seeking one new ongoing staff representative to serve a three-year term.

One of two governing bodies of the University (along with Senate), the Board of Trustees is responsible for the government, conduct, management and control of the University and of its property, revenues, expenditures, business and affairs.

As a member of the Board, the staff representative will actively engage and participate in discussions and decision-making that affect the University. In addition, each staff member is appointed to a Board committee. Time and commitment are required in preparing for and actively attending the Board and committee meetings, normally held five times per year, from September to June.

The General Bylaws of the Board of Trustees specify that the Board must include two ongoing staff members, elected by ongoing staff at Brock, serving staggered three-year terms. As of July 1, there will be one ongoing staff vacancy on the Board.

The University Secretariat will hold elections in May to select one representative from the ongoing staff for a three-year term commencing July 1.

All ongoing staff of the University are eligible to serve, except those who report directly to the President or to a Vice-President. Nomination forms are available on the University Secretariat election website.

Individuals may nominate themselves or another individual providing the candidate has clearly agreed to accept the nomination. All nominations must be submitted by email to universitysecretary@brocku.ca no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5.

The election will be done by electronic voting, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16 and close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24.

All eligible voters will receive an email to their Brock email account with a link to a secure electronic ballot. Each voter may vote for one candidate as there is only one vacancy. The candidate leading the poll will be declared elected to the three-year term.

Please contact Simon Burke, University Secretary and Associate Vice-President, Governance and Policy, at  universitysecretary@brocku.ca with any questions.
