Small but powerful acts of kindness will make their presence known at Brock University next week.
Organized by the Brock Student Life and Success team and partners from across campus, Random Acts of Kindness Week takes place Monday, Feb. 13 to Friday, Feb. 17, with a variety of initiatives planned to brighten people’s days. The scheduled activities take inspiration from the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation’s goal of “making kindness the norm at school, home and work.”
While Brock has celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day in the past, Student Life Assistant Ayena Ahad said this year’s activities would need more time.
“This year, we wanted to do Random Acts of Kindness through a whole week as we know that this is usually a very stressful time for students,” she said in reference to the upcoming midterm season. “We want to support the Brock community through positive messages and small acts of service to encourage everyone to make kindness the norm here at the University.”
Spontaneous acts of kindness will be taking place across campus, with a variety of events also encouraging participants to be kind to one another. This developing list of activities includes:
Monday, Feb. 13
A candygram station at the Valentine Social in Pond Inlet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 14
An affirmation card station in the Rankin Family Pavilion from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 15
A thank you card station in Market Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 17
Free coffee and cookies in the Student Life office (MCA 204) from 10 to 11 a.m.
Brock employees are also reminded to continue to consult the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation’s workplace kindness calendar, which has daily suggestions of kindness, compassion, appreciation and self-care.
Each month, the calendar focuses on a theme, such as inclusiveness, connection and gratitude. Examples of themed ‘kindness and love’ suggestions for February include:
- Holding the door open for someone.
- Taking a treat to work for everyone to enjoy.
- Telling a colleague they are doing a great job.
Employees can also use the University’s Be Mindful platform to share messages of positivity, encouragement, acknowledgement, appreciation or gratitude with their colleagues.
