Brock University’s United Way Committee is looking for volunteers to support this year’s employee fundraising campaign — stressing that even a small commitment can make a large impact.
With the campaign set to kick off this week, the Committee is seeking employees interested in volunteering as department canvassers, who act as United Way representatives within their departments. Canvassers connect with their colleagues in person and via email about the need for United Way, illustrate the impact their contributions can make in the local community and ask colleagues to pledge their support by way of payroll contribution. Many canvassers also choose to lead a short presentation about United Way at a department team meeting.
Canvassing is estimated to require one to two hours of volunteer time between now and mid-December. Presentation slides, key messages and other resources will be provided. Interested employees are also invited to attend an online information and training session on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
Brock’s United Way campaign will officially kick off Wednesday, Oct. 19 with a ceremonial flag raising event. Brock community members, including past and present United Way donors, committee members, canvassers and volunteers, are invited to wear red and join Interim President Lynn Wells and United Way Committee Co-Chairs Jocelyn Titone (BBA ’07) and Colleen Whyte (BRLS ’97) for the flag raising and photo at 12:15 p.m.
RSVP is not required to attend the flag raising ceremony. Employees interested in volunteering as a United Way canvasser are asked to email Michelle Leone (BRLS ’05, MA ’08) at mleone@brocku.ca
