United Way Committee seeks new members, ambassadors

Brock University’s United Way Committee is getting ready for its annual fundraising campaign this fall and is seeking employees to join the cause.

New committee members are needed to help plan, communicate and execute this year’s fundraising initiatives, which include a University-wide online payroll contribution campaign and in-person events, such as the Souper Star Lunch campaign kickoff and the Trivia Night fundraiser.

Employees who join the United Way Committee are asked to get involved with one or more areas of focus, including canvassing and presentations, event planning, and marketing and communications.

Meetings will take place bi-weekly from September to December via Microsoft Teams and are usually 45 to 60 minutes. Additional time may be required outside of meetings to work on areas of focus. There may also be opportunities to meet in person.

The United Way Committee is typically comprised of 15 to 20 faculty and staff from across a variety of University departments.

Koreen McCullough (BA ’04), Experiential Education Co-ordinator with the Faculty of Humanities, joined last year to meet new people and develop her leadership skills.

“Getting involved with the United Way Committee was much easier than I expected, and the commitment has been very manageable,” she said. “I enjoy being a part of a community of folks on campus who are dedicated to making a positive difference in Niagara and beyond.”

In addition to seeking new committee members, the United Way Committee is looking for employees to act as United Way ambassadors within their departments. The role requires a few hours of time spread out over the entire Fall Term to communicate with colleagues about the fundraising campaign and encourage them to participate. Lunchtime training will be available.

Interested employees are asked to email United Way Committee Co-Chairs Jocelyn Titone (BBA ’07), Communications Specialist with University Marketing and Communications, or Colleen Whyte (BRLS ’97), Associate Professor with the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, at jtitone@brocku.ca or cwhyte@brocku.ca, respectively.

More information on Brock’s United Way campaign is available on the United Way Campaign SharePoint site and in past Brock News articles.
