Thesis defences Aug. 29 to Sept. 2

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Monday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Sept. 2.

PhD in Biological Sciences thesis defence

Eric de Hoog, a PhD in Biological Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Modulation of Voltage-Gated Ca2+ Channels by Retinoic Acid Signaling” on Monday, Aug. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in MC H313.

Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies thesis defences

Alec Moore, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Tracing the Colonial Dimensions of ‘Special Education’: History, Disability, and Settler Colonialism” on Monday, Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Dawn Zinga, Chair; Hannah Dyer, Supervisor and Graduate Program Director; David Hugill, External Examiner (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Carleton University); and Chelsea Jones and Richard Mitchell, Committee Members.

Emily Cauduro, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “A Call to Action: How the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Has Influenced Policing Policy and Practice in Ontario” on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Dawn Zinga, Chair; Voula Marinos, Supervisor; Tammy Landau, External Examiner (Associate Professor, Criminology, Toronto Metropolitan University); Hannah Dyer, Graduate Program Director; and Shannon Moore and Christine Goodwin-De Faria, Committee Members.

Melissa Blackburn, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “A Multi-Method Examination of the Perfectionism Social Disconnection Model Among Adolescents: Testing the Unique Role of Online (Dis)Connection” on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. in virtual format.

Master of Sustainability thesis defence

Savannah Stuart, a Master of Sustainability candidate, will defend the thesis “Exploring People-Place Relationships Through Place Attachment and Wellbeing in the Context of the Abrupt Changes Associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic” on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. in virtual format.

PhD in Education thesis defence

Min Huang, a PhD in Educational Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Mobile Learning Activities for Students’ English Learning Engagement in China” on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in PLZ 600F.
