As Brock prepares to welcome the 2022 Canada Summer Games to its main campus, some University facilities and services will see a shift in hours and availability.
Below is a list of changes that will take place during the Canada Games, which run from Saturday, Aug. 6 to Sunday, Aug. 21. The answers to a variety of frequently asked questions related to the Games at Brock can also be found on the University’s Canada Games web page.
Road closures
The main roadway into Brock’s main campus, including Isaac Brock Boulevard North and South, Isaac Brock Circle, and Isaac Brock Boulevard East and West in front of Schmon Tower will be closed Friday, Aug. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 20 from 1 to 8 p.m. Campus will remain accessible via the Glenridge Avenue entrance.
Parking
Zone 1 will remain open for free parking during the Games. The lot will also be shared with the Games, so the Brock community is asked to park their vehicles on the northeast side of the lot. The area designated for the Games will be marked with signage.
Parking lots with permits will remain open to those who have permits and will continue to be monitored and enforced. This includes visitor parking lots and spaces, which will remain paid.
Lot P is completely designated for the Canada Games and will not be available for paid visitor parking. This lot will be closed from Friday, Aug. 5 through to Monday, Aug. 22.
Zone 2 will be utilized for spectators to Canada Games Park. Visitors to Brock’s main campus who are not watching an event at Canada Games Park are asked to avoid using Zone 2, if possible.
A number of Brock parking lots will not be accessible from Friday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 21 due to road closures related to the Criterium cycling competition. They include Zone 3, Lot D, Lot B1, Lot B2, Lot P, Lot Q, Lot R and Lot F. During this time, Zone 1 can be accessed via the Glenridge Avenue entrance.
Bus stops
While still running their services to Brock during the Games, buses will be rerouted and will stop for pickups and drop-offs just outside the main tower bus loop.
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 18 at 4:30 p.m., buses will be rerouted to stop outside of campus on Glenridge Avenue until Sunday, Aug. 21 at 8 a.m. due to the road closure set to take place for the Criterium.
Dining Services options
The following dining options will be available to members of the public as well as Brock employees, students and community members.
Tim Hortons at Hungry Badger, Starbucks, and the Guernsey Market convenience store: 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Hungry Badger Pizza Pizza: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Hungry Badger Pita Pit: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tim Hortons at the base of Schmon Tower: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Brock Graduate Students’ Association
The Brock Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) office will be available through an appointment-only basis between Monday, Aug. 8 to Thursday, Aug. 18. The GSA Office will be closed from Friday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 21. To book an appointment, please email gsaoffice@brocku.ca.
Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU)
BUSU Reception will be closed during the games, but questions can be directed to reception@brockbusu.ca
BUSU dining options
Isaac’s patio: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for food and beverage service.
Isaac’s bar: 5 to 10 p.m.
General Brock convenience store and coffee: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Union Station food court (Subway, Harvey’s, Booster Juice, Ah-So Sushi, Burrito Boyz and Union Greens) 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Athlete and coach dining
DeCew and Lowenberger dining halls are open to Canada Games coaches and athletes only.
Walker Sports Complex
Accreditation is required to access the Walker Sports Complex facilities. Please visit the staff at the Cage who will place an accreditation sticker on ID cards for entry before and during the Games. Enter through the west doors by the tennis courts during the Games.
Locker rooms
Locker rooms are closed throughout the duration of the Games. All washrooms are available, including lockers in the hallway. Participants are asked to come dressed for their activity.
The Zone Fitness Centre
The Zone and track will remain open during regular hours throughout the Games.
Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre
The pool at Brock will be closed for competition during the Games except for the following lane swim times open to Brock students and members: Aug. 4, 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Lockers will be available during this time.
Brock libraries
The Map, Data and GIS Library as well as Archives and Special Collections will be open by appointment only. The Makerspace will be closed.
The James A. Gibson Library will remain open Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Pond Inlet
The upper level of Pond Inlet will not be accessible to anyone during the Games and alternative walkways must be taken.
