Long-awaited Brock President’s barbecue attracts hundreds of employees

It was an event many have been looking forward to, especially Brock University’s Interim President Lynn Wells.

More than 350 employees attended the President’s barbecue Wednesday, June 1 in Market Hall to enjoy lunch and socialize with colleagues.

The annual celebration has been on hiatus for the past two years due to public health restrictions, and it was the first time Wells had seen such a large group of employees together in one room.

“This is an amazing day. How great it is for us as a community to come back together,” she said. “I know we’ve all been dislocated for the last two years and haven’t had occasions where we can get together to just socialize and talk to each other as people.”

When Wells arrived on campus two years ago as the University’s Provost, the campus was very quiet.

“I knew there were people who worked here: I saw a few of you on video screens and sometimes we would run into each other in the real world at the grocery store,” she says. “But I always knew this community existed.”

Wells thanked employees for their service and is looking forward to future opportunities to get together as a community.
