Brock to co-host online international data analysis conference

Brock University will virtually welcome academics, practitioners and policymakers from around the world for a three-day conference focused on econometrics and data analysis.

Co-hosted by Brock’s Faculty of Mathematics and Science (FMS) and Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco, the 9th Days of Econometrics for Finance event will take place online Thursday, March 17 and Saturday, March 19. The event will run in tandem with the 11th annual High Dimensional Data Analysis Conference, also co-hosted by Brock online, on Friday, March 18.

The conference is dedicated to the memory of Professor Kjell Doksum, Senior Scientist in the Statistics Department at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Emeritus Professor in the Statistics Department at the University of California, Berkeley, who passed away in 2021.

Brock FMS Dean Ejaz Ahmed will honour Doksum, a cherished friend, during his conference address.

“Kjell was a true scholar of mathematics and statistics, and I had the pleasure of knowing for more than two decades,” Ahmed said. “I had several research publications with him and published a paper with him just last year. This conference will hold a special place in my heart.”

The gathering aims to bring together academics, practitioners and policymakers sharing interest in applied economics, financial econometrics, risk management and data science.

More than 230 people from 20 countries have already registered, but the conference team is seeking more input from Canadian academics. The conference is truly a Canadian initiative, with the inaugural HDDA workshop taking place in 2011 at the Fields Institute in Toronto.

Attendees will hear new research results and discuss current and challenging issues in econometrics and statistics for finance, Big Data analytics and other related topics.

The program, event times, key dates, abstracts and list of invited speakers is available on the conference website.
