Employee feedback sought on work-from-home pilot

With the first term of Brock’s one-year work-from-home pilot nearing completion, Human Resources is looking for feedback from the community, and has streamlined the request process.

The University launched the Work-From-Home Guideline pilot in the summer with the plan to continue it until Aug. 31, 2022. More than 225 formal work-from-home arrangements were approved for the Fall Term.

As part of the Guideline, these arrangements are to be reviewed and renewed term-by-term for the duration of the trial period. That means requests will need to be resubmitted for the Winter Term, and then again prior to the Spring/Summer Term.

To make this process simpler, HR is switching the forms over from Sharepoint to Workday, with employees able to submit a request for approval to their supervisor in a similar way they would request time off.

The Work-From-Home Guideline may not be suitable or possible for all positions and does not apply to employees represented by BUFA, CUPE 1295, CUPE 4207-1 or CUPE 4207-3.

With plans to create a new policy, the Work-From-Home working group is asking supervisors and employees to provide feedback on the current work-from-home program via an anonymous survey that can be filled out until Friday, Jan. 21.  The University is also seeking feedback on its consideration of other flexible work arrangement possibilities such as compressed work schedules or job sharing. The information gathered from the survey will be used to create a new flexible work policy.
