Zone reopens to Brock faculty and staff

Memberships to access the significantly expanded Zone Fitness Centre and other Walker Sports Complex facilities are now available to Brock University faculty and staff.

The Zone has been closed to employees since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, and was in the midst of a significant renovation project at the time that has seen the space triple in size and filled with all new fitness equipment.

As the COVID-19 restrictions on gyms began to lift, the Zone reopened to students in March 2021, and now faculty and staff can resume purchasing a variety of memberships for the Zone and other Brock fitness facilities via the Brock Rec Online Services portal.

The Brock Faculty and Staff All-Access Monthly Membership costs $47 a month and includes use of the Zone, the Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre, courts, indoor track, ExpressFit classes, gyms, studios, outdoor tennis courts, turf field and day-use of lockers and showers.

Other specialized facility memberships include Swim Monthly ($30) and Courts and Track Monthly ($30).

There are also a variety of personal training packages for one-on-one training with a certified personal trainer.

Once a membership is secured, members looking to use the Walker Sports Complex facilities must reserve their spot on the Brock Recreation schedule.

Sessions for the Zone can only be booked for one-hour periods and are staggered by 15-minute breaks to allow staff to conduct enhanced equipment cleaning. Sessions for the aquatic centre consist of 45-minute time slots and are limited to one reservation per person per day.

In the Zone, gym-goers must wear a mask except when using designated cardio machines, which are marked to indicate the user may remove their mask while operating the equipment.

Masks are also required in the change rooms and the pool deck until swimmers reach their lane.

All participants must check in at the Cage each time they visit the Walker Sports Complex and show their daily screening result through the Brock Safety and tap their ID card to prove completed vaccination status.
