Indigenous students invited to share at open mic night

The community is welcome to attend an upcoming open mic night, where Indigenous students are invited to express themselves and share their culture.

Taking place at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26 at Mahtay Café in St. Catharines, the event will be co-hosted by Brock University Aboriginal Student Services and Indigenous Education at Niagara College.

Cindy Biancaniello, Brock’s Aboriginal Events Co-ordinator, said the chance for Indigenous students to take the stage to share music, poetry, jokes and other forms of expression can be an enriching experience for everyone in attendance.

“It offers Indigenous students a safe and welcoming space to share their culture through speaking their language or sharing a song, and it’s a great opportunity for non-Indigenous people in attendance to listen and learn,” she said.

Public health regulations, including masking and proof of vaccination status, will be in effect.
