Brock Badgers collecting food donations for Community Care

In addition to school spirit, the Brock Badgers are hoping fans who come out to their upcoming games will also bring along donations for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.

The Badgers are bringing back their annual food drive for the local organization, collecting non-perishable food items at six games beginning Thursday, Nov. 18, when the Brock men’s hockey team hosts the York Lions at Seymour-Hannah Arena at 7:15 p.m.

Those who bring a donation will be entered into a draw to win a Badgers prize pack.

The food drive is an opportunity to help Community Care fill its shelves with items such as canned meat (corned beef, flaked ham or poultry), juices, canned fruit and granola bars.

The food drive was spearheaded by the newly formed Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) as one of its first initiatives.

“One of the council’s values is community involvement. This will be a great first step in getting to know some members of our community,” said co-president Madeline Hingston. “It will also be rewarding to give back to the community that has been supporting Brock for many years now.”

The Brock University and wider Niagara community can donate non-perishable food items at the following upcoming Brock Badgers events:

  • Thursday, Nov. 18: Men’s hockey vs. York (Seymour-Hannah Arena), 7:15 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 19: Women’s and men’s volleyball vs. McMaster (Bob Davis Gym), 6 and 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 20: Women’s and men’s basketball vs. Windsor (Bob Davis Gym), 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 21: Women’s hockey vs. Western (Seymour-Hannah Arena), 5:15 p.m.

Donation bins will also be set up at the Brock Walker Sports Complex Welcome Desk and at Rink 1 of the Seymour-Hannah Arena throughout the food drive.
