Brock University to test mass notification system over Reading Week

Brock’s Campus Security Services (CSS) will be conducting a live test of the App Armor Alert Mass Notification System on Thursday, Feb. 18 at noon.

The test will consist of two alerts, the first indicating the start of the alert notification and the second indicating the test has been completed. This test is required to confirm all portions of the mass notification system are working as expected and to identify any deficiencies.

Messaging will be sent to many of the mass notification alerting mechanisms, such as Brock Mobile Safety App subscribers via a push notification; Brock desktop and office phones; all Brock email addresses; any subscribers to SMS text messages or subscribed phone numbers; CSS’ Facebook and Twitter feeds; and an alert message will display on all Brock-managed PC and MAC computers.

The upcoming tests will involve the entire Brock community, including those working remotely using Brock owned or managed devices.

For those on campus, an audible message will be broadcasted over the PA systems and a scrolling message will be visible on all of the digital message signs.

Connected desktop PC users and those remotely accessing their Brock office PC can expect an alert screen with a test alert message. Users will be able to press the acknowledge option to end the alert, which will clear the screen and allow them to resume their work. Alternatively, the alert screen will automatically disappear once the test alerts have been deactivated by CSS.

All other notification methods will not require any action by the subscriber.

Questions on the testing process can be directed to Campus Security Inspector Karl Thorp at kthorp@brocku.ca
