Thesis defences — Dec. 21 to Jan. 8

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place virtually from Monday, Dec. 22 to Friday, Jan. 8.

Master of Science thesis defence

Michael Dubé, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Computer Science, will defend his thesis titled “Epidemic Simulation and Mitigation via Evolutionary Computation” on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Sheridan Houghten, Supervisor; Richard Allmendinger, External Examiner (University of Manchester, UK); and Ke Qiu and Brian J. Ross, Committee Members.

Master of Science thesis defence

Leah de Felice Renton, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Biological Sciences, will defend her thesis titled “Hard Pressed To Find A Difference: Evaluating the total tannin content of Cabernet franc L cv. wines, made using pre- and post-fermentation pressing treatments” on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Debra L. Inglis and Belinda Kemp, Co-Supervisors; Karine Pedneault, External Examiner (University of Sainte-Anne); and Heather Gordon and Vincenzo De Luca, Committee Members.

Master of Science thesis defence

Michael Tolentino, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Biological Sciences, will defend his thesis titled “Involvement of the Endocannabinoid System in the Ependymoglial Response to Spinal Cord Regeneration in the Mexican Axolotl, Ambystoma mexicanum ” on Friday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Robert Carlone, Supervisor; Val A. Fajardo, External Examiner (Department of Kinesiology, Brock University); and Aleksander Necakov and Gaynor Spencer, Committee Members.

Master of Arts thesis defence

Jessica Linzel, a Master of Arts candidate in History, will defend her thesis titled “Re-imagining Loyalist Era Niagara: A Spatial Study of Economic Development (1783-1812)” on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Keri Cronin, Chair; Daniel Samson, Supervisor; Colin Rose, Second Reader; Renée Salhany, Graduate Program Director; and Joshua MacFadyen, External Examiner  (University of Prince Edward Island).
