Women in Leadership champion issue of affordable housing in Niagara

The housing crisis in Niagara affects everyone, but its impacts are felt most strongly by women and children. Compared to men, women experiencing homelessness are often invisible in the community, making it challenging for people to be aware of their actual housing needs.

At the next Women in Leadership session, participants are invited to meet some of the local women who are working to understand and address the crisis. Joanne Heritz, Assistant Professor of Political Science, will be joined by Lori Beech, Executive Director of Bethlehem Housing, and Elisabeth Zimmerman, Executive Director of YWCA Niagara Region.

Looking Ahead and Looking Up: Affordable Housing in Niagara,” a policy brief Heritz wrote for the Niagara Community Observatory (NCO), will inform the discussion. The session will be facilitated by Carol Phillips, Research Co-ordinator for the NCO.

Women In Leadership aims to support women in formal and informal leadership positions and encourage the next generation of potential women leaders. The virtual meetings are open to all women and allies.
