Virtual welcome as Brock students start Fall Term

As thousands of students start their post-secondary education at Brock this week, the University is welcoming them virtually.

The Virtual New Student Welcome and Academic Orientation launched this week for students to learn more about their University, Faculty and programs.

Since going live Tuesday morning, more than 2,500 new Brock students have visited the Virtual Orientation site from all 10 Canadian provinces and more than 45 countries around the world.

“We know that it may look slightly different, but I’m certain that in years to come, this time period will become part of the exciting story students will share with friends and family members,” said Brock President Gervan Fearon. “We have a dual focus: the health and safety of our students, and providing an outstanding educational experience. We think we can do both together.

“We’re very thankful to the students who are here in so many different forms and for the work of so many of our faculty and staff to create a safe learning environment,” he said.

The Virtual Orientation is personalized to students based on their Faculty and whether they’re an undergraduate or graduate student. (A full list of links to the specific Orientation pages can be found below).

The site includes a full schedule of Virtual Welcome Week events, a keynote address by Brock graduate Tim Arnold, President of Leaders for Leaders, and welcome messages from:

  • Amos Key Jr., Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement
  • Leela Madhavarau, Director of Human Rights and Equity
  • Brock President Gervan Fearon
  • Graduate Students’ Association President Christopher Yendt and Brock University Students’ Union President Asad Jalib
  • The Deans of each Faculty

There are also links to additional virtual orientations from the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the other six Brock Faculties, as well as Concurrent Education and Co-op, Careers and Experiential Education.

Additionally, students will find welcome content from the Brock Library, Aboriginal Student Services, Brock International and a special offer from the Brock Campus Store, along with new, Brock-branded desktop and phone backgrounds to celebrate the start of the Term.
