While COVID-19 has resulted in many challenges, it can also be used as a learning opportunity to look at the role organizations have in being leaders in sustainability.

An upcoming webinar led by Sylvia Grewatsch, Assistant Professor of Management and Strategy in the Goodman School of Business, will discuss how organizations can use the pandemic as an opportunity to build sustainable and more resilient business models based on systems thinking.

‘COVID-19: An opportunity for systems change toward sustainability’ will take place Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. as part of the free weekly Business Breathers webinar series facilitated by the Goodman School of Businesses’ Goodman Group. Business Breathers features 30 minutes of live industry and faculty expert-led discussions, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period. Topics focus on leadership, management and innovation, as well as the financial and social impacts of trending topics.

Grewatsch will discuss the learning opportunities organizations can gain from COVID-19 and how they can build more resilient and sustainable business models in the future.

“Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of the future,” she said. “I would like to address a more holistic approach to the concept of sustainability. It’s not only about an environmental-focused approach, but rather a relational understanding of the roles individuals and organizations play in a system and taking accountability.”
