Webinar to discuss how industry research relationships can enhance organizational performance

New knowledge is being created every day, including research that could improve organizational performance. But there is often a gap between ideas and implementation.

An upcoming webinar will discuss how organizations can collaborate with academia to positively impact their business and society. ‘Bridging the gap between knowledge and action to enhance organizational performance’ will take place Wednesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. as part of the free weekly Business Breathers webinar series facilitated by the Goodman School of Businesses’ Goodman Group.

Business Breathers features 30 minutes of live industry and faculty expert-led discussions, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period. Topics focus on leadership, management and innovation, as well as the financial and social impacts of trending topics.

Leading this week’s webinar is Madelyn Law, Brock University’s Associate Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning; Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences; and Director of the Interprofessional Education for Quality Improvement Program.

Law will share her experiences in partnering with industry on quality improvement projects that focus on implementation science to enhance the quality of existing health systems.

“There’s a lot to be learned from other sources of scientific knowledge, such as from healthcare and sport psychology, that is transferrable to business,” she said.

“People might notice something in their environment and wonder, ‘Why do we work like this?’ or, ‘Why is this happening?’ or, ‘Is there something I can do to make this better?’ They might hear about research innovations in the news and want to implement the ideas in their organization, but don’t know where to start. This is where integrated knowledge translation comes in: researchers and practitioners work together to identify critical questions happening in industry, find research that already exists or create new meaningful projects, and then test them in real-world applications.”

Everyone is welcome to attend Business Breathers webinars. Interested participants are asked to register online. A confirmation email will provide a Lifesize link to access the webinar at the date and time it is planned.
