Brock University is showing its colours with more than a weeks’ worth of activities to help educate, inform and entertain the LGBTQ2+ community and its allies.
While Pride Week is traditionally observed in June globally, Brock decided to host a second week of events during a time when more students are on campus. This year’s events are taking place Saturday, Jan. 18 to Tuesday, Jan. 28, deliberately spanning more than a week.
“There is simply too much to pack into four or five days,” says Leela MadhavaRau, Director of Brock’s Office of Human Rights and Equity (HRE). “In addition, we want to remind Brock that 2SLGBTQII programs occur year round; while Pride Week is designed to pay particular attention to this community, it is not a one-off.”
She says HRE is committed to taking an active part in campus programming that reinforces the message that Brock is an institution that strives to be inclusive for all.
“The programming during Pride Week reinforces the diversity of the 2SLGBTQII community, ensuring the University thinks beyond monolithic stereotypes,” says MadhavaRau.
People who are interested in learning more about programming offered throughout the year are encouraged to contact Brock Pride, Human Rights and Equity and the Student Justice Centre.
Interested participants are encouraged to share photos of various Brock Pride events online using the hashtag #BrockUPride.
