After a film screening over the weekend, Brock Pride Week arrived on Brock University’s main campus Monday, Jan. 20 with a flag raising and the 2SLGBTQ+ Drag Brunch.
The flag-raising featured an all-inclusive design that represents Brock Human Rights and Equity’s (HRE) dedication to the safety and support of all communities.
Along with the rainbow from the pride flag, the new design also features black and brown colours to represent QTPOC/2SLGBTQ+ individuals; blue and pink stripes to represent the transgender community; and a purple chevron which intersects with the white to represent the land Brock is on, Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe communities, and the two row wampum agreement.
The University’s tower lights are also being lit in the colours of the new flag.
Once inside, members of the Brock community were formally welcomed to Pride Week by several speakers before also eating brunch and taking in a performance from drag performer Raven S. Claw.
Brock Pride Week events will continue until Tuesday, Jan. 28. A full list of events can be found here.
