Thesis defences — Dec. 9 to Dec. 13

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place at Brock from Monday, Dec. 9 to Friday, Dec. 13.

All are open for the University community to attend.

PhD comprehensive portfolio defence

Education student Julianne Burgess will defend the Portfolio “Entering Into the Borderlands: A Critical Reflection on My Doctoral Journey” on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Mary-Louise Vanderlee, Chair; Gerald Walton, External Examiner (Lakehead University); Fiona Blaikie, Supervisor; Diane Collier, Committee Member; Jennifer Rowsell, Committee Member; and Susan Holloway, Committee Member (University of Windsor).

PhD in Chemistry thesis defence

Zineb Ras Ali, a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry will defend her thesis titled “Magnetically Interesting Coordination Complexes Based on Macrocyclic Ligands” on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 12 p.m. in GSB 305.

The examination committee members are Melanie Pilkington, Supervisor; Georgii Nikonov and Travis Dudding, Advisory Committee; Louise Dawe, External Examiner (Wilfrid Laurier University); David Gaudes, Internal Examiner; Wendy Ward, Chair.

Master of Child and Youth Studies thesis defence

Nicole Staite, a Child and Youth Studies master’s student, will defend the thesis “Dance with a B-E-A-T: Recreational Dance with Behavioral Analysis and Therapy for Children and Youth with Exceptionalities” on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Trent Newmeyer, Chair; Tricia Vause, Supervisor; Jae Patterson, External Examiner (Associate Professor, Kinesiology, Brock University); Shauna Pomerantz, Graduate Program Director; Maureen Connolly, Committee Member and Ayda Tekok-Kilic, Committee Member.

Master of Science thesis defence

Paria Azadi Namin, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Chemistry, will defend her thesis titled “Synthesizing Self-Healing and Recyclable Silicones Using the Diels-Alder Reaction as a Cross-Linker: Investigation of Various Dienes and Dienophile Systems ” on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Miriam Richards, Chair; Paul Zelisko, Supervisor; Melissa A. Grunlan, External Examiner (Texas A&M University); and Travis Dudding and Melanie Pilkington, Committee Members.

PhD in Chemistry thesis defence

Ringaile Lapinskaite, a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry will defend her thesis titled “Synthesis and derivatization of Amaryllidaceae constituents – narciclasine and pancratistatin” on Friday, Dec. at 1 p.m. in Sankey Chamber.

The examination committee members are Tomas Hudlicky, Supervisor; Costa Metallinos and Paul Zelisko, Advisory Committee; Louis Barriault, External Examiner (University of Ottawa); Vincenzo De Luca, Internal Examiner; Wendy Ward, Chair.
