Thesis defences — Dec. 16 to Dec. 20

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place at Brock from Monday, Dec. 16 to Friday, Dec. 20.

All are open for the University community to attend.

Master of Science thesis defence

Justin Thomas Pentesco, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Earth Sciences, will defend his thesis titled “Assessing environmental controls for candidate microbial ichnofossils in hydrothermally altered basaltic tuffs of Upsal Hogback, NV” on Monday, Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m. in MC H313.

The examination committee includes Edward Sternin, Chair; Mariek Schmidt, Supervisor; Lindsay J. McHenry, External Examiner (University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee); and Francine McCarthy and Frank Fueten, Committee Members.

PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities thesis defence

Jill Planche, a PhD candidate in the Department of Interdisciplinary Humanities, will defend her thesis titled “The Larger Stages: The ‘Becoming Minor’ of South African Theatres” on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m. in Welch Hall 147.

The examination committee members are David Fancy, Supervisor; Susan Spearey and Ebru Ustundag, Advisory Committee; Michael Vallee, External Examiner (Athabasca University); James Allard, Internal Examiner; and Wendy Ward, Chair.

PhD in Applied Health Sciences defence

Kelly Pilato, a PhD candidate in the Department of Applied Health Sciences, will defend her thesis titled “Lessons learned from a critical appraisal of a fall break policy in higher education: A case study” on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. in STH 361.

The examination committee members are Madelyn Law, Supervisor; Shannon Moore, Miya Narushima and John Hay (Emeritus Professor, Brock University), Advisory Committee; Denise Stockley, External Examiner (Queen’s University); Todd Green, Internal Examiner; Wendy Ward, Chair.

Master of Science thesis defence

Holt Nickolas Messner, a Master of Science candidate in the Centre for Biotechnology, will defend his thesis titled “An in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro exploration of the use of chronic hypoxia/physioxia and ROS/RNS-mediated alteration of physiological function in mitochondrial disease” on Friday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. in MC H313.
