As Brock University’s enrolment grows, so does the number of people commuting to campus.

Factor in major construction at the Hwy 406/St. David’s Road interchange, and driving onto campus in a timely fashion can be challenging.

But avoiding peak times and following a few simple tips will help drivers avoid some of the heaviest traffic. For instance:

• Brock staff monitoring the situation have identified congestion spikes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 9 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Try to stagger your arrival or departure to miss those times.
• Campus Security often helps smooth traffic at key pinch points by co-ordinating the flow of vehicles on campus. Paying attention to officers’ signals and obeying all signs and speed limits will help alleviate traffic backups.
• Remember — pedestrians crossing roadways at crosswalks have the right of way at all times.
• The University also encourages commuters to consider carpooling, using public transit or riding their bicycle.

Brock’s growing population means finding a parking space can also be a challenge. Parking passes are sold out for Zone 1 and Zone 2, the largest lots on campus.  However:

• New options for additional parking capacity are being developed, and will become available this fall.
• Drivers are reminded that permits must be displayed while parking in the appropriate lots for which the permits have been issued.
• Paid parking is available in Visitor Lot D, Lot E, Lot EA, Lot P, along Flora Egerter Way and along University Road West.

Campus traffic and parking patterns continue to be monitored. In the meantime, if you are unable to stagger your arrival or departure away from peak periods, anticipate delays and allow a bit more time for your daily commute.
