Thesis defences Aug. 12 to 16

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place at Brock from Monday, Aug. 12 to Friday, Aug. 16.

All are open for the University community to attend.

Master of Science thesis defence

Shayda Shivafard, a Master of Science candidate in the Centre for Biotechnology, will defend her thesis, titled “Vector Competence and Viral Interactions of Zika Virus” on Monday, Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. in CRN 207.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; L. Robbin Lindsay, External Examiner (National Microbiology Laboratory, Public Health Agency of Canada); Fiona Hunter, Supervisor; and Ping Liang, Paul Zelisko and Adam MacNeil, Committee Members.

Master of Science thesis defence

Sean Mason, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Chemistry, will defend his thesis, titled “DNA Walkers: Emerging Analytical Applications, Biomolecular-Nanomaterial Probes and Biomolecule Biosensors” on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 9:30 a.m. in CRN 207.

Environmental Sustainability Research Centre MA thesis defence

Sustainability Science and Society student Angela Mallette will defend the thesis “Understanding perceptions of the state of the environment in relation to ecological measures: Intergroup differences and the influence of an interpretive program” on Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Shauna Pomerantz, Chair; Ryan Plummer, Supervisor; Christopher Lemieux, External Examiner (Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Wilfrid Laurier University); Marilyne Jollineau, Graduate Program Director; and Julia Baird and Xavier Fazio, Committee Members.

Psychology MA thesis defence

Psychology student Laura Murray will defend the thesis “Generalized anxiety disorder following mild head injury: An investigation into the relationship between physiological underarousal and symptoms of anxiety” on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. in Plaza 600F.
