Brock University President Gervan Fearon has written the following letter to students ahead of St. Patrick’s Day:
Dear students,
A year ago, I wrote to Brock students asking for your co-operation in making St. Patrick’s Day a respectful and safe celebration for everyone.
I am taking this opportunity to thank all of you who did just that. It was a day with very few issues, a day that told the Niagara community that Brock University is filled with exemplary students.
As St. Patrick’s Day 2019 approaches, I am asking you and your colleagues to remember to be respectful and responsible neighbours and citizens. Your decisions and actions make an important statement about Brock University to our host communities. I know your exemplary actions will be welcomed by your neighbours and community, so please do not be the individual whose behaviour overshadowed the efforts of your friends and other students.
Your academic and professional successes are valued here at Brock, and our faculty and staff work hard in supporting these outcomes. Each year, our Student Services staff partner with the Brock University Students’ Union, the Graduate Students’ Association and your Town and Gown committees to support the welcome that students who live off-campus enjoy in their neighbourhoods.
We have taken precautionary actions by engaging Mayors across the region as well as the Niagara Regional Police, so that Brock Campus Security Services are able to patrol off-campus neighbourhoods and report on activities that may violate bylaws or warrant police action. Please know that where infractions do take place, we at Brock will consider all of our options under the Student Code of Conduct. Officials across the region will also explore their full range of options, including municipal, provincial and federal laws.
If at any time, day or night, assistance is needed, please contact Campus Security at 905-688-5550 x3200 for support.
We know that each of you are proud to be members of the Brock team. Let’s make this another special St. Patrick’s Day for all of us.
Sincerely,
Gervan Fearon
President and Vice-Chancellor, Brock University
