Hip hop musician will lecture on Elimination of Racial Discrimination day March 21

South African hip hop artist and educator Shaheen Ariefdien will be the special guest at Brock on Thursday, March 21, at a lecture to mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The 5 p.m. event in TH 247 is open to all the Brock community, and is being organized by Professor Simon Black’s LABR2P91 Hip Hop and the Urban Working Class.

Ariefdien is a founding member of the hip hop group Prophets of Da City. They have toured with artists like The Fugees, James Brown and Public Enemy, and performed at the inauguration of South African President Nelson Mandela.

An educator, music producer, scholar and youth worker, he has also worked globally on educational and social justice projects in places including South Africa, Switzerland, Namibia, Northern Ireland, Angola and Canada.
